Four-Legged Friends

In this 3:25 video, reporter Tyler Williams highlights the impact Therapy Dogs can have on students’ mental health at Sierra College.  Every Tuesday in the library, students have the opportunity to connect with friendly therapy dogs. This gives students a break from studying and some comfort.

Williams interviews two therapy dog handlers, Ruth Villarreal and  Bonnie Finsthwait. They share with her their experience of being therapy dog handlers and the impacts their dogs have not only on the Sierra College Campus but also on other places they visit.  Williams also sat down with Sierra College counselor, Catherine Morris. Morris helped bring therapy dogs to campus with just one dog that later grew into more and the current Tuesday sessions at the Rocklin Campus Library.

To learn more about how dogs are trained to become therapy dogs, visit the Alliance of Therapy Dogs site for more information. To learn more about when the dogs are meeting with students on campus, check the Sierra College Event Calendar.
